• Claude’s Chocolate … if you haven’t gotten your sweetie some sweets yet and want to … go to the Claude’s Chocolate store on A1A.  The one off A1A is easier to get to than going down to Old City (but if there it’s next to the Casa Monica).  Make a left on to A1A at Palencia and it’s about 4-5 miles on your right in a little shopping center.  Very nice … they told me they would like to do something special in future for us (neighbo maybe a class or tour.    They’ll keep me posted and I’ll keep you posted!  145 Hilden Rd. zip 32081 (Considered Ponte Vendra but it’s closer than the city.)

Cnote 2/11:  V-Day Decisions … Both CaddyShack and the Villagio Restaurant at the Renaissance Resort WGV have wonderful Valentine’s Day dinners planned … since I couldn’t choose … I’m going to have the best of both … I’ll be at the Villagio on Sunday and CaddyShack Tuesday!!  When you call for reservations – if you want the V-Day specials you need to mention it and check on the hours they are serving those, e.g., Sunday the 5 course special starts at 5 pm at the Renaissance.  See the Calendar tab for what’s on the menu and phone numbers to call.  Tuesday I’ll be enjoying Andy, the “Cowboy”, and a favorite CaddyShack friend singing during Karaoke (starts at 7pm)!  Hope to see you at one or the other or BOTH — you deserve it!  (Regular menus are also being offered)

• Stopped in at Rhett’s in St. Augustine last weeek, finally … piano bar.   Piano and bass and vocals and sat at the bar near the piano … classy.  If you go for dinner ask to be seated in the “balcony” area upstairs … you will be seated right over the sidewalk on Hypolita St.  While checking it out I ran into neighbors from Cascades having dinner in the best seat in the house!  You watch the people go by below and I saw a carriage with a bride go by.  That seating area in the balcony area is just two to a table though. Other areas are broken out into rooms. Very nice. They have very small tables there.  Met the chef that I saw on the FCN that morning there.  Then for some great Sangria we stopped at a place right next to Pizza Alley (can’t remember the name) and Charlie will be singing … he sits in the retail-type window area and you can sit in the big cushy chairs inside and watch the people go by.  They look at Charlie and are not sure if he’s real or not.  It was a great night … neighbors brought us to meet Charlie. People walking around the city … lively.  That’s what I want for WGV!  We have a beautiful place to walk … more people need to come out to the Renaissance and Caddyshack at night and enjoy what we have here and walk the Champions Walk.  Pass the Hall of Fame and IMAX.

• Rhett’s restaurant in St Augustine was highlighted on FCN this morning … they are going to be the subject of a food show in Canada called Gourmet Escapes.  Food Touring is very popular and St. Augustine is bringing dining, music and ambiance to our neighbors and visitors.  Six food tours here.

• A Cascades neighbor wanted to remind neighbors to get together at the Renaissance on Thursday nights for happy hour and getting to know each other.  This is one fun group!
• Also anyone wanting to get together who likes doo wop music … or maybe if you don’t want to sing but love the music a Cascade neighbor wants to get a group together … you can come and enjoy the music! Email me and I’ll pass it on or see Local  Groups tab for info.
• Did you know if you speed in the King & Bear the St. Johns Sheriff’s Dept. is authorized to issue speeding tickets?  A speed of 39 mph will get you a $130 ticket.   A speed of 40 mpg will set you back $199 – notice is listed on the wgvsocial.com social committee website.   And on International Golf Parkway between I95 & SR16 do the speed limit because many times an officer is watching with radar.  Slow down for the safety of all and save yourself some $$.

The lighted trees dance to the songs. They’ll instruct you to put your radio on a channel to hear the music — there is a tent with cocoa, Minnie & Mickey photo ops, cookies, hayride, an area where the Snoopy characters tell the story of Christmas.  Very nice … don’t miss it.

Cnote 12/10:  In my weekly email I mentioned the lighted sign that said LOCK YOUR DOORS!  It was hard to read driving by … especially getting off of I95 where you have to be careful merging into traffic on Intl Golf Pkwy … so a neighbor said it read LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS … well lock all your doors.  Seems there were some cars that had items stolen out of them.  Always lock all your doors … be safe out there this holiday season!

• The Renaissance WGV receives a thumbs up for the special $11 intro to a few of their signature dishes for the new menu.  There was some wait time for folks because the neighbors came out in droves – double the reservations folks made. Awesome!  The music was good too.  I have heard nothing but great feedback on the food.  I’m looking forward to seeing the full menu this week!
