New:  1/28  Betty Griffin House to Present Winter Wonderland Dazzling FUNd Raiser

Winter has arrived inSt. Augustine! Winter Wonderland kicks off the 22nd anniversary for Betty Griffin House on Saturday January 28, 2012 from 6-10 p.m. at the Sawgrass Resort and Spa inPonteVedraBeach.

This dazzling event is sure to be an amazing night with silent auction items, including gift certificates to some of your favorite local restaurants.  Entertainment from the Ron Perry Connection, playing a variety of music from classic rock, current hits, acoustic music and even dance hits!  Fermin Spanish Guitar will entertain during dinner, playing classical Spanish guitar.  It’s a time relax and have fun after the holiday rush, so gather a group of friends to help support the vital life saving services provided by Betty Griffin House.   Dinner will be a mix of buffet food stations including dessert, along with a cash bar.  Tickets are just $85 per person or $700 for a table of 10.  Don’t miss out on this incredible event!!

2/4  AAUW Card/Games Party – Renaissance Resort

TheSt. AugustineBranch of the American Association of University
Women will host a Card/Games Party to benefit AAUW Scholarships and
the Branch Legacy Fund. This event will begin at11AMon Saturday,
February 4, 2012in theSt. JohnsCountyConvention Centerat the
Renaissance Resort located inWorldGolfVillage. Cost is $35 per person,
inclusive and is payable in advance. Attendees are asked to bring their own
games, cards, and score pads. A superb selection of raffle baskets, silent
auction items, two $100 money trees/hats and a 50/50 raffle will be offered.
Credit cards, checks and cash will be accepted for payment. Attendees do
not need to be present to win. Deadline for reservations is Tuesday,
January 29, 2012. Directions and a map will be provided after a reservation
is made. This event is open to the public. Qualifications for submitting a
scholarship application include being a femaleUScitizen, having
completed one year of college level studies as a full-time, on campus (not
on-line) undergraduate with a minimum GPA of 3.0, submitting three letters
of reference, writing a brief essay on why the applicant should receive the
award and be willing to be available for an awards ceremony if selected.

2/18 OLGC 4th Annual Fashion Show

Our Lady of Good Counsel church is holding their 4th Annual Fashion Show.  Theme: Let Me Take You On A Sea Cruise!  12 noon – 2:00 pm (doors open at 11:30 am).  Located at 5950 State Road 16.  Cost: $30 in advance, $35 at the door.  Seats are numbered, get your tickets early!  Featuring Music by DJ Brett DeVoe (contact info for DJ under N2N tab).  Latest fashions by Designeer Discounts, St. Augustine.  Tropical Food, Pina Coladas, Frozen Sangrias, Silent Auction and much more.  Tickets available by calling Jen Weiler 829-1168 or by email: jweiler@thefirsttee.org   

New: 2/21  Newcomers Meeting / Luncheon

Save Third Tuesdays of the Month for Newcomers

Schedule the third Tuesday of each month through May on your 2012 calendar for attending the meetings/luncheons of Newcomers of North St. Johns.  Join after Feb. 1st and pay only half price for rest of our year.  For membership info, e-mail Sue at sjaird@comcast.net.

Newcomers will meet on Feb. 21st, at 11 am, at Latitude 30, located at10370 Philips Hwy.,Jax32256, across from The Avenues Shopping Mall.  Latitude 30, with 50,000 sq. ft. is a state of the art entertainment venue that includes a restaurant, bowling lanes, cinema, sports bar and lounge, arcade and video games, comedy stage and accommodates small to large parties and special events.

Help The Horses / Off SR16 – Aluminum Can Drive for Diamonds In The Rough 

One Person’s Trash is a Local Charity’s Treasure! You can help a neighborhood non-profit, Diamonds in the Rough Horse Farm, just by saving your Aluminum cans. The Drop-off location is just west of SR 16 & International Golf Blvd at 4411 Rues Landing Road. Special arrangements can be made for the Pick-up of Larger Collections or at Local Events that serve beverages in cans. Call (904) 315-3172 for more info. Want to help further? Donations of scrap Copper and unwanted Silver & Gold are also accepted. Please call the farm for special Drop-off details. Come support a good cause and find Back-To-School bargains galore. Designer fashions for the family, quality accessories, furniture, exercise equipment, artwork, lamps, jewelry, gifts and housewares make shopping at BGH a wide-ranging shopping pleasure.

We also need your donations of the following items, in good, clean condition for re-sale: Housewares, Artwork, Clothes, Electronics, Jewelry, Bedding and Furniture.

Call either Thrift Shoppe for pickup of furniture and large items!

During the summer months, you can help our families in shelter by donating laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, diapers (all sizes), combs/brushes, trash bags, and paper products, (such as paper towels, napkins).  With more than 40 women and children in shelter each day, these items are essential for daily living.  Donations can be dropped off at the Thrift Shoppes, and will take them to the emergency, safe shelter that is in a confidential location in St. Johns County. 

You can also volunteer to help sort donations and place them on the sales floor.  If you love books, we have plenty to put on the shelves.  Come by yourself, or bring a group of friends.  Your purchases, donations, and volunteering directly help adults and their children who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse in St. Johns County. 

The Northwest St. Johns County Thrift Shoppe is located in the Julington Square Plaza at 445 S.R. 13 North in the Food Lion shopping plaza Hours are Monday thru Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday, 12 to 6 pm.  Phone 904/230-5435 for pick up of large furniture.
